The Richards Trauma Process (TRTP™)
The Richards Trauma Process (TRTP™) is a simple, step-by-step process, which resolves trauma and trauma related issues including PTSD, anger, anxiety, depression, fears, low self-esteem and phobias. It achieves results quickly, effectively and safely – generally in 3 to 4 sessions, without re-traumatising the client (See video’s below).
TRTP™ is a process of directed hypnotherapy. It is a structured and sequenced series of steps, which when combined are create powerful and significant shifts.

When overwhelming events happen to us, the body is unable to process them. The ‘trauma’ gets stuck in the body, and the unconscious (the parts of ourselves outside of our awareness).
TRTP™ deals with past events in two ways (1) physically – through releasing the emotional charge that gets stuck at the time of the event and (2) psychologically – by installing a feeling of safety (I’m safe) into the body and mind.
This combination is extremely effective at resolving past issues, which then enables the client to become future focused and move forward in their lives.
TRTP™ uses hypnosis (focused concentration) as a mechanism to speak directly to the body and resolve the trauma. During hypnosis the client’s imagination becomes a powerful tool for change.
The body and the unconscious does not know the difference between what is real or imagined, so when we imagine different outcomes to old events, when we are most open to suggestion (under hypnosis) things are processed and change occurs at a deep, enduring level.
With TRTP™ limiting beliefs and painful experiences are rewired and resolved. The client is always in full control throughout the hypnosis process.
Trauma experts van der Kolk and Levine state in order to resolve trauma two requirements are necessary:
• The person must be moved to an empowered position in regards to the trauma.
• The body must know that the event/events are over.
These two main points underpin TRTP™
TRTP™ initially deals with the underlying, negative beliefs, which keep a person stuck in patterns of negative thought, emotion and behaviour.
TRTP™ then takes the emotional charge out from past events, without re-traumatising the client. The client is moved to a place of empowerment in relation to the trauma. TRTP™ does not merely address the symptoms of trauma or distressing events, it deals with the underlying cause of the problem, removing the emotional charge from the past and returning the person to a calm state.
The Process:
Prior to the first appointment homework is emailed out asking for some background. It is very quick and requires only short, dot-point answers. Then the appointments are as follows:
Removes negative beliefs. Most of us have negative beliefs. These are the things we believe to be true about ourselves and get laid down when we are very young. Examples are: I’m a failure, I’m not loveable, It’s all my fault, I’m not good enough. These tend to run our lives.
These negative beliefs keep us stuck, and are the reason self -sabotage occurs. These negative beliefs get in the way of us really being who we are, so by changing them at the beginning of the process, self-sabotage is avoided. Clients feel calmer and more empowered. (90-120 minute session).
Removes the emotion from the most stressful, overwhelming or traumatic events in one’s life. The client does not go back into the detail of these events. They are not retraumatised. Instead TRTP™ empowers the client so they feel safe. You take control over the event; the event does not control you. The event is then resolved, and becomes a memory. Clients return to a state of calm. (120 minute session)
Is all about the future. In this appointment clients are guided so they can see the future without being bound by the past. Clients are now able to plan and see their futures. (60-minute session)
TRTP creates a powerful therapeutic combination. Results vary from client to client, but with a deep desire for change, and a willingness to engage fully in the process positive and powerful shifts occur.
