The Richards Trauma Process (TRTP Therapy)
The Richards Trauma Process (TRTP Therapy)
The Richards Trauma Process (TRTP Therapy) represents a groundbreaking approach in addressing and healing trauma-related conditions. This method stands out for its simplicity and structured nature, offering a clear, step-by-step journey towards resolving a wide array of issues stemming from trauma, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anger, anxiety, depression, various fears, low self-esteem, and phobias. One of the most remarkable aspects of TRTP Therapy is its efficiency in delivering results. Typically, the process requires only 3 to 4 sessions to effect meaningful and lasting change, a significant advantage for those seeking prompt relief and recovery.
At the core of TRTP Therapy lies the practice of directed hypnotherapy. This technique is not just about guided relaxation or suggestion; it’s a sophisticated process involving a structured and sequenced series of steps. These steps are carefully designed and implemented to work synergistically, producing powerful and significant psychological shifts in the client. What sets TRTP Therapy apart is its commitment to the safety and comfort of the individual undergoing the process. It is meticulously crafted to avoid re-traumatising the client, a crucial consideration in trauma therapy. The effectiveness and safety of TRTP Therapy make it a compelling choice for individuals looking to overcome the debilitating effects of trauma and related psychological issues, providing a pathway to healing and empowerment.

When overwhelming events happen to us, the body is unable to process them. The ‘trauma’ gets stuck in the body, and the unconscious (the parts of ourselves outside of our awareness).
TRTP™ deals with past events in two ways (1) physically – through releasing the emotional charge that gets stuck at the time of the event and (2) psychologically – by installing a feeling of safety (I’m safe) into the body and mind.
This combination is extremely effective at resolving past issues, which then enables the client to become future focused and move forward in their lives.
TRTP™ uses hypnosis (focused concentration) as a mechanism to speak directly to the body and resolve the trauma. During hypnosis the client’s imagination becomes a powerful tool for change.
The body and the unconscious does not know the difference between what is real or imagined, so when we imagine different outcomes to old events, when we are most open to suggestion (under hypnosis) things are processed and change occurs at a deep, enduring level.
With TRTP™ limiting beliefs and painful experiences are rewired and resolved. The client is always in full control throughout the hypnosis process.
Trauma experts van der Kolk and Levine state in order to resolve trauma two requirements are necessary:
• The person must be moved to an empowered position in regards to the trauma.
• The body must know that the event/events are over.
These two main points underpin TRTP™
TRTP™ initially deals with the underlying, negative beliefs, which keep a person stuck in patterns of negative thought, emotion and behaviour.
TRTP™ then takes the emotional charge out from past events, without re-traumatising the client. The client is moved to a place of empowerment in relation to the trauma. TRTP™ does not merely address the symptoms of trauma or distressing events, it deals with the underlying cause of the problem, removing the emotional charge from the past and returning the person to a calm state.
