Anger Management Counselling session at Melbourne Counselling Centre

Anger is rarely the first feeling — it is usually the one that arrives when something underneath has been ignored. We work backwards from the incident to the trigger, then forwards to the skills that give you a genuine choice in the moment.

A structured four-session program is available for clients required to complete anger management by a court or employer, with a Certificate of Attendance provided on completion.

This work helps when

  • Reactions are bigger than the situation deserves
  • People at home have started walking on eggshells
  • Driving, work or sport has become a flashpoint
  • You feel calm afterwards and cannot explain what happened
  • A court, employer or partner has asked you to address it

  1. 01

    The incident, in detail

We walk through a recent episode slowly — what happened, what you felt in your body first, what you told yourself, what you did.

  2. 02

    Triggers and history

Where the reaction was learned, what it protects, and the situations that reliably set it off.

  3. 03

    Skills, rehearsed

De-escalation you practise in session until it is available under pressure, not just understood in theory.

  4. 04

    Repair and evidence

Taking responsibility with the people affected, and building a track record. For court clients, a Certificate of Attendance on completion.

“The pause is ninety seconds long. It has saved me more than once.”

Common questions

Is the four-session program accepted by courts?+

The program is designed to meet standard court requirements and concludes with a Certificate of Attendance. Check the exact wording of your order or your lawyer’s advice before booking so we can match it.

I was told to come. Does that make it pointless?+

No. Plenty of clients arrive resentful and still get real value, because the skills work regardless of why you walked in. Being honest about not wanting to be here is a fine place to start.

Does anger management mean never getting angry?+

No. Anger is useful information and often justified. The work is on what you do with it — the speed, the size and the target of the response.
