Stress Management session at Melbourne Counselling Centre

Stress management starts with an honest audit: what is on you, what is genuinely yours, and what has quietly been handed to you. Then we work both sides of the equation — reducing the load where it can be reduced, and increasing your capacity to carry the rest.

This is practical work. Boundaries you can actually hold, the conversation at work you have been rehearsing for months, and recovery built into the week instead of postponed until a holiday.

Signs the load is too high

  • Sunday night dread and Monday exhaustion
  • A short fuse with the people you like most
  • Sleep that no longer restores you
  • Cynicism about work you used to care about
  • Getting sick every time you finally stop

What we work on together

Load audit

A clear picture of demands, resources, and the gap between them.

Boundaries that hold

Language and follow-through for saying no, renegotiating and delegating.

Real recovery

Daily and weekly recovery designed around your actual life, not an ideal one.

How the work unfolds

Load auditingBoundary workRecovery designAssertive communication
  1. 01

    Audit the load

Everything currently on you, written down, sorted into what is yours, what was handed to you, and what you took on by default.

  2. 02

    Reduce where possible

The conversations, delegations and refusals that actually lower the load — planned, worded and rehearsed.

  3. 03

    Build capacity

Sleep, movement and recovery designed into the week, plus the regulation skills that stop small pressures compounding.

  4. 04

    Hold the line

What to do when the load creeps back, and the early warning signs that tell you it has.

“Turns out half of what I was carrying was never mine to carry.”

Common questions

My job is the problem. Can counselling help if I cannot leave?+

Yes. We work on what is inside your control — boundaries, expectations, recovery, and the specific conversations with a manager that change your actual workload rather than just your attitude to it.

Is this the same as burnout treatment?+

Burnout is the far end of the same spectrum and it needs recovery time as well as skills. If you are there, we prioritise rest, medical review and reducing demand before anything else.

Can you provide documentation for my employer?+

As a counsellor I do not issue medical certificates — your GP does. I can provide a letter confirming you are engaged in counselling if that is useful.
