Life transitions counselling and life coaching session in Melbourne

In short

Life transitions counselling is counsellor-led life coaching for a change you chose or one that arrived anyway — a career change, retirement, a move, an empty house. It handles both the plan and what the change cost you. Sessions are 50 minutes at $198, GST included, typically six to eight of them.

A life coach helps you build the plan. A counsellor helps with what the change costs you — the identity that went with the old job, the grief inside a good decision, the fear that arrives once the plan is made. This work does both, which is why it suits people who have already tried one and found half the problem untouched.

There is no programme to buy and no personality framework to fit into. We start with where you actually are, name what the change has taken and what it has opened, and build the next step from there.

Common transitions

  • A career change, redundancy or a return to work
  • Retirement, or the year before it
  • Children leaving, or a house that has gone quiet
  • A move, a migration, or a marriage ending
  • A diagnosis that reorganises everything

What we work on together

Get your footing

Steady the practical week first. Sleep, routine and decisions that cannot wait, before anything larger.

Name the cost

Most transitions involve a loss, including the good ones. Naming it is what stops it leaking into everything else.

Build the next step

Concrete and small enough to actually take. Direction, not a five-year vision statement.

How the work unfolds

Solution-focusedValues workGrief-awarePractical goal setting
  1. 01

    Where you actually are

An honest account of the change, what it has altered, and what you have been telling other people instead.

  2. 02

    What it took

The part coaching usually skips. Identity, status, routine, relationships, certainty — whatever went with the old arrangement.

  3. 03

    What matters now

Values before goals. A plan built on the wrong values is abandoned within a month.

  4. 04

    The next step

One step, sized to be taken this fortnight, with a way to review it that is not self-punishment.

A plan without footing does not get followed. We build the footing first, then the next step.

Common questions

Is this life coaching or counselling?+

Both, and you do not have to decide which you need. The difference matters less than whether the work addresses the plan and the cost of the change at the same time. Anne is a registered counsellor, so the emotional side is handled properly rather than pushed past.

How is this different from a life coach?+

Most coaching starts from the assumption that you are well and need a strategy. That is often true, and sometimes the strategy keeps failing because something underneath has not been dealt with. Counsellor-led coaching can go to either place without a referral.

How many sessions does it take?+

Transition work tends to be shorter than open-ended therapy, though there is no set number of sessions. We agree a plan at the start and review it as you go.
