How to use these videos
Each one answers a question that comes up repeatedly in first sessions: what actually happens in the room, why avoidance makes anxiety louder, how the pursue-and-withdraw cycle traps couples, and what trauma resolution involves. They are short by design — three to eight minutes — so you can watch one before deciding whether counselling is for you.
Watching is a reasonable first step
Plenty of people watch several of these over a few weeks before booking anything, and that is a sensible way to use them. Understanding the mechanism behind a problem tends to reduce the shame attached to it, and it makes the first session more productive because you arrive with better questions.
Prefer to read?
The same ground is covered in writing across the twelve how-to guides — including grounding during a panic wave, preparing for a first session and asking a partner to come to counselling. The glossary translates the clinical vocabulary, and the FAQs answer the practical questions about fees, confidentiality and cancellations.
New videos
Videos are added to the Melbourne Counselling Centre channel as topics come up in practice. If there is something you would find useful, say so — most of these exist because a client asked the question first.
